Antikythera lectures and salons feature interdisciplinary thinkers to investigate and identify emerging themes and issues in planetary computation research. These private, invitation-only events, often bookended by public lectures, convene technologists, researchers, philosophers, designers, policymakers, artists, architects, engineers, and others through formal and informal conversation. Salons explore the most challenging prospects, relevant partners, and potential applications for projects.

So many disciplines deploy simulations, and yet they remain undertheorized. The salon convenes researchers across different fields and schools of thought, from scientific modeling to VR/AR, from engineering to entertainment, to compose a general theory of simulations as an epistemological technology. A public lecture at Central St. Martins University of the Arts London discussing shifts from AGI to artificial generic intelligence, the importance of recursive simulations, the decentering of personal data, the challenges of AI in science, intelligence as an evolutionary scaffold, the limitations of mainstream AI ethics, and why a planetary model of synthetic intelligence must drive its geopolitical project.

Hemispherical Stacks SALON

ARPIL 2023

Antikythera hosted a Hemispherical Stacks Salon that brought together science fiction writers, philosophers and technologists, researchers and research affiliates to explore the research topics related to four Hemispherical Stacks subthemes. The workshop was co-curated with Berggruen Fellow and science fiction writer Chen Qiufan. It included a day of lectures and thought sessions, and a day of developing short science fiction scenarios using AI tools.

Synthetic Catallaxy SALON

The purpose of the salon was to analyze and develop planetary scale infrastructure and interventions, focused on four areas of Synthetic Catallaxy research: planning, price, carbon macroeconomics, and UBX (Universal Basic X).

Recursive Simulations SALON

Together with Nicolas Berggruen, Antikythera hosted a salon on Recursive Simulations, focusing on the emergence of simulations as an epistemological technology across domains, from scientific to VR/AR, and the ways these models create worlds in turn.
